Creating success stories.
We are widening access to education, employment and enterprise for Black and African heritage communities.
AFM Stories has spent five years helping people get into education and work that was hard to reach. More than 200 people we have supported have won scholarships and funding worth over £6 million. Our free educational resources have reached more than two million people across the world.
We are based in Norwich and work across the UK and internationally. Alongside guidance and training, we run creative workshops, skills sessions and community events, and we bring students, professionals, employers and organisations together at our annual event, The Opportunity Bridge.
Our work is for people of African descent and Black people who face barriers to education, employment and enterprise.
What We Do
Education and Employment
Workshops, training and guidance on applications, funding and the job market, delivered directly and with universities, employers and community organisations.
We work across three pillars
Enterprise and skills
Training and practical support for people running their own businesses, freelancing or building a career outside conventional employment. Sessions cover pricing, pitching, contracts, finding clients and building a body of work.
Arts and Community
Creative workshops run by us and by visiting artists. Participants develop their own work and present it at open mics, showcases and community events. We treat creative practice as a career route as well as a form of expression, and we programme work that reflects the experience of Black and African diaspora communities.
Partner with us
We deliver training, facilitation, showcase, peformance and events with universities, employers, funders, venues and community organisations. Previous organizations we have worked with include the Ford Foundation, Expo 2020 Dubai, Goethe Institute, British Council, the University of East Anglia and De Montfort University.

What our success stories are saying
"I walked into this event feeling hopeless and in just a few hours watching everyone, it feels possible for me. I had no energy, no direction or motivation but TOB has answered so many questions and given me a pathway. I am so grateful. "
Stephanie, A.
"My education was made possible by the support I got from AFM Stories. From the videos, to the essay writing workshops and the 1-1 chat. I was able to secure the UEA International development scholarship and I have now since used this education to give back as well. You are doing important work."
Emmanuel, J.
